Why?

The goal of our Social Awareness Program is to include the community in our work as much as possible.  We’re working to develop an inclusive society, in which individuals who have developmental disabilities are not only accepted, but they are protected and cared for by the community.

How?

  • Open House Programs
  • Showing other local organizations our work
  • Working with U.S. Peace Corps (open house tour for their Camp G.L.O.W kids)
  • Family Programs
  • Billboards
  • Training our Government Stakeholders (helping them understand developmental disabilities)
  • Radio interviews
  • Interacting with the community as much as possible

It’s been 3 years now, and Tamaru is still living in this small house.  The community around him still brings him food, and we still see him around our area…most of the time he is wearing clothes. This is the success of our first staff member, Meya Nigussie.  Great Job Meya!!! (Meya is sitting in Tamaru’s house, testing it out!
