Name of EFA Student: Biazenlegn Ayele
Age: 18 (as of 2016) (Being 18 and already in Grade 12, living with a disability, most PLWDs are older in high school b/c they start they education later)
Goal: Pass the Grade 12 National Exam & qualify for a 4 year university degree program, which means, this sponsorship is at most a 4 -5 year commitment to help him finish high school and a Bachelor’s Degree.
History: Biazenlegn is currently in Grade 12 at Bahir Dar Preparatory School (a government high school). His class rank in Grade 9 was 6th, in Grade 10 (4th), and Grades 11 (5th), & now in 12th (1st semester) his rank remains 5th. His conduct scores have been “A”s. He has a mother, but she isn’t able to help him very much. His father has died. He told our manager that he is trying to change himself by finishing his education.
At the end of this school year (May 2016), he will take the Grade 12 National Examination to see if he qualifies for university. His sponsorship will continue at the same amount, and it will cover his photocopy, tea/coffee, and other extra university studying expenses. The government pays for tuition, food, and housing. This is a great opportunity for him to change his life.
Disability: Biazenlegn said that he has never had his physical problem checked out at the hospital. He says that he is getting better. When he was 10 years old, he said that he could barely walk. I (Tim) was coming to the Forgotten No More Training Center on my bike when I noticed a lot of dust flying in front of me. To my surprise, it was Biazenlegn. He was walking with a stick and dragging his feet as he walked to the FNM Training Center. It’s amazing how determined he is to walk and not use a wheelchair.
He is very motivated to improve his life. Also, you’ll notice that his head looks somewhat swollen. We’ve seen this condition with a few others in Bahir Dar. We’re going to have our nursing staff take him to the hospital to get checked out. Maybe there is something extra we can do to help.
Thanks for Considering Biazenlegn for Sponsorship!
Here is his home kit. He didn’t get as much “stuff” as the other EFA students b/c we’re expecting him to be studying in university by the fall (living in a school dormitory). Because he has made it this far basically his own, we’re very excited for him to continue through university and have a wide open future with a bachelor’s degree. (here is Biazenlegn with his home kit)…yes, he did get a bed and good mattress)
